    Three steps, all on your device.

    The first photo downloads an open AI segmentation model into your browser, where it is cached for good. After that, every cutout happens locally. The optional Refine step is the only thing that ever touches a server, and only for the photo you press it on.

    Local by default. Server only when you say so.

    The standard flow makes zero network uploads: the model comes to your browser, not the other way around. Refine is the single exception, it is labeled, it is per-photo, and pressing it is the only way an image of yours ever reaches our server. It is processed, returned, and discarded.

    Questions people ask.

    Is the background remover really free?
    Yes. The on-device remover is free without any caps, and the optional HD Refine is free within a fair-use limit. No account, no watermark, no trial.
    Are my photos uploaded to a server?
    Not for the standard flow. The AI model is downloaded to your browser and runs on your own hardware, so your photos never leave your device. The one exception is the Refine button: press it on a photo and that single photo is sent to our server for a sharper full-resolution cutout, then discarded.
    What is Refine and when should I use it?
    Refine reruns a photo through a stronger segmentation model (BiRefNet) on the server and returns the result at full resolution. Use it for tricky edges like hair and fur, or when you need the cutout bigger than the on-device limit of 1500 pixels.
    Which formats work, and what do I get back?
    You can drop in JPG, PNG, or WebP up to 10 MB per photo. The result is always a PNG with a transparent background, ready for design tools, product listings, and thumbnails.
    Why does the first photo take longer?
    The first photo triggers a one-time download of the AI model. Your browser caches it, so every photo after that starts instantly, even on your next visit.
    What resolution is the result?
    On-device results are capped at 1500 pixels on the longest side so they stay fast on ordinary hardware. If you need the full original resolution, press Refine on that photo.
